Sometimes, being a kid isn’t as carefree as it seems. Big feelings, tough transitions, or challenges at home or school can weigh heavily on little shoulders. Child counselling offers a space where children can feel safe, heard, and supported. It’s not about fixing them—because kids aren’t broken—it’s about helping them find tools to understand, accept, and manage their emotions, to navigate challenges, and to feel more confident within their inner and outer worlds.
At its heart, child counselling is built around connection. Whether through play, art, games, storytelling or gentle conversations, the goal is to meet your child where they are. Children often can’t express what’s going on with them in words alone, which is why we use mediums like play and expressive arts. These approaches allow children to explore their feelings in ways that feel natural and, most importantly, fun. Play is a child’s natural language, their medium of communication.
In a child counselling session, the counsellor works—or plays—alongside with your child, helping them to process their emotions and to work through challenges. Through play and expressive arts, children can express their inner worlds and explore new ways of understanding their emotions.
Child counselling isn’t about rushing solutions or expecting kids to “talk it out.” Instead, at Lavender Counselling, we create a space where they can feel safe enough to explore at their own pace. Along the way, important skills like handling big feelings, building resilience, and strengthening relationships will be learned—all while feeling supported and understood.
